Description

Sylvestrina is a cordless, rechargeable table lamp designed by Enric Sòria and Jordi Garcés in 1974 and made by Santa & Cole. A slim Pyrex glass shade with a white diffuser stands on a glossy black or white metal base, and a press on the base switches it between full, medium, and off. It is 35.5 cm high and takes up about as much room as a wine bottle.

Design

Who designed Sylvestrina?

The Barcelona architects Enric Sòria and Jordi Garcés designed Sylvestrina in 1974. It is named after Silvestre, a tall, lean, and elegant fisherman from the Costa Brava. Santa & Cole's edition does away with oil, kerosene, and cables: it runs on a rechargeable battery and a warm 2,200 K LED.

Materials and use

How do you use Sylvestrina?

Press the base to switch it on, press again to dim it, and once more to turn it off. It lasts about 7 hours on full and 14 hours on the lower setting, and recharges in about 5 hours on the contact charger that comes with it.
